@pspvampire I don’t have my hopes up lol I won’t buy a phone for games, I buy a phone simply for calls, textes, etc. This does look impressive cos of the graphics, light and shadow effects, etc.
-
@HateCoD Don’t get your hopes up.
Most iphone games tend to lack replayability. The games are just too damn short because they’re downloadable, so they need to be fairly small for people to be okay with downloading them. They may have nice visuals (check out epic citadel) but they tend to lack in content and game length.
PSP imo, is the best handheld out there still. -
An iPhone can do this? Good bye PSP and DS.

Mr. Carmack = Real life Reed Richards

@dEm0nBulldog
Also if you listen at the very end he does say that what you’re seeing is HIS technical demo; and that he will be handing off the tech “to other people who do all the real hard work of turning it into a full fledged game *nerdy chuckle*”. SO there you have it, that’s appropriating credit, is it not?
-
@artist71
Well whose to say really? The animations present in this tech demo aren’t anything special; just some guys waiving and what not. And all the other aspects of it like say the textures and such may have already been done. I’m sure that everything you’re seeing him do was mostly done by himself. Maybe not every little single solitary detail, but I’d wager at least 95% of it was done by Carmack. I mean… he’s even presenting it and clearly that’s not really his thing. Agree to disagree.

Please could you tell me where is this video taken from? It’s got the banner at the bottom, “QuakeCon 2010, John Carmack”, so I imagine this video is a snippet from another longer video? Would love to get / see the full video.

@Azorino Im gonna repeat basically what I just posted on someone elses. I dont think he did the art and animation and camera work in that demo…did he?
Dont get me wrong..Carmack is pretty amazing on all levels..just think he should have given credit to his art team.
If he did ALL of the art then my foot belongs in my mouth. hahaha -
@dEm0nBulldog Did he make the art and animation and everything in those? I dont think so. And lets not forget about Tim Sweeney;) A 3D engine that pushes MANY more games then the iD engine..also much easier to use for the artist. DONT get me wrong..Carmack is pretty bad ass..except Tim would have given credit to his art team:)

@artist71
I agree that credit should be given where credit is due however, the engine that Rage runs on (id Tech 5) was created by John Carmack. He’s one of the best programmers OF ALL TIME. I mean, he basically created how 3d games are made… and continue to be made to this day. Also, he owns his owns and operates his own space program. The guy’s a genius. Seriously, go look up some of his accomplishments of Wikipedia, then come tell me he doesn’t deserve to say “I, me, and my” a lot.
-
Artist71
He doesnt give credit to the team, because he literally did everything you just saw. (himself)
The man personally ported Doom to the iphone over the course of a few days just for shits and giggles. -
He’s kind of smart isn’t he?
-
that guy says “I, me, and my” a lot. hmmmm
thanks for giving credit to the id team
-
@jonidimo This was developed for one or 2 hardware configurations. PC games have to run on an incredible number of configs, with different drivers, software installed and running, etc.

Looks like apple has (MABYE) finally found a secret weapon. His name: John Carmac. Btw I own a psp and a ds, and I can tell developers are getting (a bit) more serious about the iPhone. Also I’m kinda disappointed in Sony for attacking apple in that commercial, because in my opinion Nintendo and Sony have nothing to (currently) fear. You knew better than that, Sony.
-
I was serious, Iwasn’t joking, the only reason to dislike this is fanboyism, even if you never play it, it’s interesting to see new boundries being pushed , so it’s just plain old fashioned envy.
-
@MrFooknuts i own a psp and an iphone
-
If its possible to run Rage on Iphone 4, than its possible to travel through time on
a 5 year old Nokia -
Carmack talked about nothing but consoles at quakecon 2010
Say goodbye to your fanbase id, oh wait, your fanbase moved to Valve years ago -
Jesus Christ John Carmack is a fucking wizard
-
@MrFooknuts That’s retarded. I own a PSP but how am I supposed to be angry I can’t run RAGE on it? That’s what my PS3 is for. I’d get it on PC but don’t feel like upgrading my GPU AGAIN right now. Also, that whole “xx missed the like button” fad is fucking old and tired already.
-
@HolyAvgr i’m not talking about play crysis on a 386….I think you didn’t understand my comment
-
Great work as usual from this genius, but a shame he’s supporting a company as evil, dictating and controlling as apple.
Should be doing this for Android phones and tablets, or the upcoming Windows Phone 7 OS. -
Hahaha John Carmack is sooo awesome. Such a genius.
